Promoting Diversity in the Satellite and Telecommunications Industries
Project Overview
Background
The T. Howard Foundation (THF) is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote diversity in the satellite and telecommunications industry. Currently, THF receives hundreds of resumes from applicants and hundreds of potential internship opportunities from top companies in the satellite and telecommunications industry. However, these resumes and employment opportunities are all received via mail, fax or email and are not compiled in a web-based or electronic database.
Objective
The objective of THF would be to easily manage the processes of searching, compiling, sorting, interviewing, selecting and tracking applicants’ resumes and employment opportunities. Through a web-based database, THF can save time and money.
THF also has a current website that disseminates information about the organization to potential candidates and partners. THF’s second objective is to easily update sections of the website with updated news, information and pictures, without re-creating the entire website.
Challenge
Client Requirements
- Implement an applicant information management system so that THF Staff and clients can easily manage the process of searching, compiling, sorting, interviewing, selecting, tracking and matching applicants’ resumes and employment opportunities;
- Keep the structure of the existing website, while allowing THF staff to manage, update and edit the material with an easy-to-use content editor.

Solution
In order to meet T. Howard’s objective to be able to manage their internship program, CIS One provided T. Howard with its Applicant Information Management System (AIMS). While AIMS has core features (being able to sort, search, compile, select, track, review, accept and delete potential applicants and host companies), the following features were customized for T. Howard Foundation:
- Group jobs by certain categories (Finance, Entertainment, Marketing, Sales, etc.)
- Added extensive notes feature for staff comments and annotations
- Ability to e-mail applicant profiles or resumes to perspective employers
- Track applicants progress through the interview and referral process
- Ability to track “Hiring Date” and related information
- Ability for THF staff to create “Company Profiles” to job descriptions
- Ability for THF staff to upload past interns since 1995
To manage the content on the website, CIS One provided THF with a content editor. The content editor is an easy-to-use interface that allowed THF staff:
- The ability easily update, change, review and upload text information for real time web content publishing
- The ability to upload pictures (.JPG files) to the website
- The ability for specified THF staff to have editing privileges and access to the content editor to help control the website content management activities
